Birth Control Side Effects

An FDA study found that women who used Yaz were nearly twice as likely to experience dangerous blood clot conditions and complications as those who used other forms of oral birth control. This includes pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) often results in damage to a portion of the lung due to a lack of blood flow. It can also cause low oxygen levels in the blood, which can trigger damage to other parts of the body because of the lack of oxygen. If the clot is large enough, PE can cause sudden death.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) forms lower in the body, in the veins of the legs and pelvic region. As these veins return blood to the heart, a clot or piece of a clot may break off. It can travel to the right side of the heart and onto the lungs as a pulmonary embolism.

Additional Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella/Beyaz/Gianvi drug side effects can include:

  • Blood clots
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
